plate When talking about the IsurumuniViharaya, it’s impossible to forget about the “Isurumuni fans.” This sculpture dates to the 6th century and is a good example of Guptha style. Despite the woman, who is sitting on the man’s lap, lifting a warning finger, the man continues to work regardless of what she has to say. Both Dutugemunu’s son Saliya and the low caste (Sadol Kula) lady Asokamala, with whom he was in love, are represented by the finger. It is well known that he abdicated his kingship in order to be with her.
