Dambulla cave temple is located in Matale district, in the country’s geographic center. The temple is 148 kilometers east of Colombo and 72 kilometers north of Kandy. In 1991, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization designated Dambulla Cave Temple as a World Heritage Site.

The Great New Temple
This cave temple is separated from the second cave by an ancient wall that dates back thousands of years. This cave was used as a storeroom in the early seventeenth century.

The Western Temple
