Day 1
Arrival and Afternoon Safari
Morning: Depart from your starting point (Colombo or another major city) by comfortable bus or train bound for Tissamaharama, the gateway town to Yala National Park (approximately 4-5 hours).
Lunch: Upon arrival in Tissamaharama, check into your pre-booked campsite and freshen up. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the campsite or in a local restaurant.
Afternoon (2:00 PM): Embark on your first jeep safari adventure through Block 1 of Yala National Park, known for its high concentration of leopards. Keep your eyes peeled for the diverse wildlife Yala offers.
Evening: Return to the campsite for a relaxing evening under the starlit sky. Share stories of your safari sightings with fellow campers and savor a traditional Sri Lankan dinner prepared by the campsite staff.
Day 2
Exploring the Depths of Yala
Morning (6:00 AM): Wake up early for a refreshing breakfast and prepare for your second exciting jeep safari. Today, you'll venture deeper into a different block of the park (depending on park regulations) to explore the varied landscapes of Yala.
Mid-morning (10:00 AM): Return to the campsite for a delicious lunch and a chance to relax or freshen up.
Afternoon (Optional Activities - Choose one):
1:00 PM: Visit the historic Kataragama Temple, a significant religious site for Hindus, Buddhists, and indigenous Vedda people. Immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere and explore the unique architecture. (Entrance fee not included)
2:00 PM: Take a boat ride on the scenic Lake Weherahena, a great spot for birdwatching and observing crocodiles and other wildlife. Enjoy the tranquility of the lake and witness the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. (Entrance fee not included)
Evening: Enjoy dinner back at the campsite and spend the evening listening to the nocturnal sounds of the park.
Day 3
Unveiling the Hidden Gems and Departure
Morning (5:30 AM): Rise before dawn for a unique experience - a walking safari with a park ranger. This allows for a closer look at the park's diverse flora and fauna, including smaller animals and birds you might miss from a jeep.
Mid-morning (8:00 AM): After the walking safari, return to the campsite for breakfast and pack up your belongings. Enjoy a final glimpse of the surroundings before departing.
Departure (10:00 AM): Check out of the campsite and take a return bus or train ride back to your original destination, filled with unforgettable memories of your Yala National Park adventure.
